Neutering & Spaying Policy & Criteria

At Eastbourne Doggy Daycare (EBDD), our priority is to provide a safe, enjoyable, and well-balanced social environment where all pups can thrive.

Our daycare setting is built around carefully managed group play, positive social interactions, and the wellbeing of every dog in our care. As dogs mature, natural hormonal changes can influence behavior, confidence levels, social interactions, and group dynamics. Even in well-trained and friendly dogs, these changes can sometimes lead to increased tension, unwanted attention from other dogs, mounting behaviors, territorial behaviors, or challenges within established social groups.

To help maintain a calm, stable, and safe daycare environment for all pups, EBDD requires dogs attending daycare who are aged 12 months and over to be neutered or spayed.

We are delighted to welcome puppies under 12 months of age and believe early socialization in a structured daycare environment can be hugely beneficial to their development. However, owners should understand that acceptance as a puppy does not guarantee ongoing attendance beyond 12 months of age. Continued attendance at EBDD is dependent upon the dog being neutered or spayed once they reach 12 months old.

This requirement is not a reflection on any individual dog. Rather, it is a necessary measure that enables us to safely manage group play, maintain positive relationships between pups, reduce the likelihood of hormonally influenced behaviors, and ensure the highest standards of welfare across our daycare community.

By enrolling a puppy under 12 months of age, owners acknowledge and accept this policy and understand that failure to meet this requirement may result in their dog’s daycare place being withdrawn.

In circumstances where a veterinary professional recommends delaying neutering or spaying for medical reasons, EBDD may consider an exception on a case-by-case basis, subject to supporting veterinary evidence and ongoing suitability assessments.
